The Struggle

Do you know how hard it is to get a toddler to eat? I won't even say that he's a toddler, we'll say preschooler. Here is a run down of events from this morning

7:45 AM - Wakes up, begs me to get out of bed because he's STARVING and can't wait any longer.

7:49 AM - Tired of him smacking me in the face so I begrudgingly get out of bed and do the morning routine as Des follows me around asking for a waffle and fruit and don't forget COFFEE!!!

8:02 AM - Breakfast is on the table (thank you frozen waffles and toaster for making breakfasts fast and easy)
8:07 AM - Make myself first cup of coffee and tell Des to eat.

8:20 AM - Urge him to eat and not play with Samurai sword at the table

8:45 AM - URGE DES TO FINISH HIS WAFFLE AND DON'T PUT YOUR BLUEBERRIES IN YOUR CHOCOLATE ALMOND MILK

8:47 AM - Tell Des to stop staring out the window.

At least he's eating.

9:15 AM - He finishes and I am contemplating a 3rd cup of coffee. (at least I had time to catch up on my blog reader)

This is the fight EVERYDAY, not just with breakfast but with lunch and dinner as well. It's frustrating. I want him to be independent and to eat on his own but sometimes it's just easier to pick up his fork and feed him myself.

Anyone else's boy struggle with meal times?

When Friends Breakup

The past 4 days have been... different.

I found out a bit of information about some of my real life friends that actually made me a little sad and made me re-evaluate our friendship.

Now, I realize that I'm in no way perfect and I try REALLY hard not to judge, but I can't help it any more. If you're too materialistic/stupid/naive to realize that what you are doing with your life is a REALLY bad decision then I can't be your friend.

I hate "breaking up" with friends, but at this point in my life I need to step back and do what is right for myself. I am not in high school any more, I'm almost 30, and the party girl lifestyle isn't for me. I grew out of that a long time ago.

So, now I have to muster the courage to tell this person that I am no longer in their wedding.

Bad Moods; We All Have Them!

It's hard to not be grumpy lately.

I'm an optimistic person, I really am, and I am usually the person in my group of friends that can make a bad situation seem like a piece of cake. I take charge, get shit done, and them it's all rainbows and sunshine.

Work is a big source of my grumpiness, our hours got cut, more stuff was put on my plate, and now I'm left trying to figure out how to squish a 60 hour workload into 37.5 hours a week. Not to mention my co-workers and their non-teamwork-but-we-think-we-work-well-together mindset. In all actuality I am doing the work of 4 people. It makes for a very over-worked, under-appreciated, and grumpy Amy.

I notice that I am too tired to play with Des after work, my attention span sucks, and I have no patience for anything.

I need to turn over a new leaf, leave work at work, and just try to be more patient.

How do you ungrump the grumpies?

An Update, Some Pictures, and a Song

When I started this blog I wanted so very bad to update as much as possible. Then The Hunger Games came into my life and I read that series from Friday to Wednesday. Every waking minute when I wasn't working or playing with Des was spent READING! I love books.

This week has literally been the week from hell. Between work and home I am just so glad it's over (for now) I'm also glad I'm able to spend time with Des on my own on Fridays. Last weekend our weather was so agreeable, a little warm, but it was a very good day.

Here are some pictures to help you get the idea. (Please pardon my cell phone photos)

A bike ride in the park to get our vitamin D! I love our park

I was asked to take some pictures at a baby shower of a coworker. I actually won a shower gift! (This almost never happens to me)

A little green beer and green jello shots with some rad girlfriends.

St. Patrick's Day karaoke

My brother in laws birthday party. One of the best cakes you will EVER eat, Philodough, dulce de leche, fresh strawberries, and Whipped cream.

Normally when I get into a book series, I fling myself right into it head first and never look back. I wasn't sure what to expect from the book series but with the movie coming out I thought I would give it a try, 5 chapters in I was hooked. I got the soundtrack, watched the trailer, and bought my ticket for the midnight premier, which is reserved for Harry Potter, comic book movies, and (don't judge) Twilight.

Now, I'm not normally a Taylor Swift fan, I mean her songs are good, catchy, and written well. I'm a really big fan of The Civil Wars who wrote the above song with Taylor Swift. It's so mellow, and melodic. Give it a listen.

The days are getting longer

I love fall/winter here in South Florida, but I feel robbed of it this year. I love bonfires and chilly nights just as much as anyone else, but alas, that season is ending. Taking it's place is another season I am fond of here in Florida (minus the rain).

We are able to spend what little time we have outside after work teaching Des how to peddle his new tricycle, taking walks around the block, and chasing remote control cars.

Easter will be here soon and there will be eggs hunts and ham.

What am I doing?

I've done this before, "I'm going to blog and it's going to be awesome!" In fact I have had MANY a blog in the last 8 years, mostly on Xanga, where I wrote stories with my feelings in the subtext. I loved it, it was a great outlet for things that I couldn't really "say".

I've always been better with written words rather than with audible ones. If I ever needed to convey a feeling to friends, boyfriends, family, it would go right into a notebook promptly and obviously placed to get their attention.

So what am I going to do in this space?

I am going to run it for me. Yes, I'm a mommy, but I won't be a "mommy blogger". Sometimes that stigma is too much to handle.

Yes, I'm domestic, I may write about what I like to cook, read, decorate with, but I won't be that person. (not that there is anything wrong with it)

I am going to do this for me. and I like that.
